A remarkable and well loved lady, born in Bridgend, South Wales. At the age of 7 she and her two
siblings lost their mother, and were cared for by their father. After leaving school, Diane started
work for Braggs the butcher, where she tried all aspects of that trade.
Her life changed at the age of 17, when she went to Coney Beach fun fair and met a young man called
Christopher, who helped to maintain the waterslide, and she kept coming back just to talk to him.
Even when the season ended they continued to write, and so it was two years later in 1960 they were
married. They lived with Di's father, but Chris wanted to return to Bristol, so they packed their
belongings and the 1st of their 5 girls, caught the train back to Bristol. After staying with
relatives they were given a home in Hartcliffe, in fact they had several houses, depending on the
size of the family.
Diane's daughter Debbie died in a motor bike accident in America, leaving 5 little girls in the care
of their loving Grandmother who adopted them. It wasn’t just these three, but others who needed
care and protection were absorbed into Di's home. All together Diane had 5 daughters 23
grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, (and 2 on the way). Every one of whom she loved and who loved
her.
Diane enjoyed Bingo, having her own seat at table 100 in the Gala bingo hall at Whitcurch. She
enjoyed wildlife programmes and looked after a variety of animals that her girls brought home, from
chickens to goats but putting a stop to having a pig!!!!!
Diane will be remembered for her big heart, her Tardis of a home (normal on the outside, plenty of
room on the inside) her laughter, her strength, patience and love.
Her death while, painful for the family was peaceful and gentle, with Chris by her side and her
girls close to hand. May she rest in Peace eternal.
